Legal Disclaimer

Last updated: July 29, 2026

This disclaimer applies to everything published on this website. It supplements our Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy.

1. No Professional Advice

All content on this website — including service pages, pricing information, blog posts, guides, and FAQs — is provided for general informational purposes only. It does not constitute professional tax, accounting, financial, or legal advice, and it is not a substitute for advice from a qualified professional who has reviewed your specific circumstances. Tax outcomes depend on individual facts and circumstances; general information cannot account for yours.

2. No Client Relationship

Reading this website, submitting a contact form, sending us an email, or booking a consultation does not create a client relationship. A client relationship is formed only by a written engagement letter signed by both parties, with the scope of services and fees agreed in that letter. Until then, nothing you send us is subject to the duties owed to a client, and nothing on this site should be treated as advice to you.

3. Accuracy and Changes in Law

United States and Canadian tax law changes frequently. IRS and CRA forms, filing thresholds, withholding rates, deadlines, and penalty amounts referenced on this site — including FIRPTA withholding rates, Form 8833 disclosure penalties, and Form T1161 reporting thresholds, among others — are subject to change and may not reflect the most current law at the time you read them. We make reasonable efforts to keep content accurate, but we give no warranty of accuracy, completeness, or timeliness, and content is not updated in real time as laws change.

4. Pricing

Prices published on this website are starting points and illustrative of typical engagements. Final fees depend on the scope and complexity of your situation and are confirmed in a written fixed quote before any work begins. Where this site compares the cost of assembling services from separate providers, those third-party figures are illustrative market estimates, not quotes from — or representations about — any specific firm.

5. Blog and Illustrative Examples

Examples, scenarios, and case descriptions on this site are generalized and illustrative of the type of work performed. They are composites, not accounts of specific engagements; they are not testimonials; and they are not guarantees or predictions of the outcome of any engagement. Your results will depend on your facts.

6. Third-Party Links

This site links to external resources, including government websites and statutory texts. Those links are provided for convenience. We do not control external sites, are not responsible for their content or availability, and do not endorse them. Quoted excerpts from official sources reflect those sources as of the date they were reviewed.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Fairlight Accounting accepts no liability for any loss or damage arising from actions taken, or not taken, in reliance on the content of this website. This includes direct, indirect, incidental, and consequential losses. This limitation applies to website content only; the responsibilities we owe engaged clients are set out in the applicable engagement letter and governed by our Terms & Conditions.

8. Consult a Professional

Before acting — or deciding not to act — on anything you read here, obtain advice specific to your situation from a qualified professional. If that professional is us, the engagement starts with a conversation and a written scope, not with this website. Contact us to begin.
